Treatments in Newcastle and North Tyneside

Helping you feel your best

Treatments are holistic, and individualised to you and your symptoms and history.  I am an accredited member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (formerly the BAA), which requires degree level training, and abiding by a code of ethics and safety.

I always aim to treat your main presenting condition for noticeable results, while also addressing the underlying cause/causes of your problem for long lasting effects.  Over the years I have developed a style of acupuncture which is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) but incorporates some Japanese techniques and palpation.  More recently I have trained in NeoClassical Acupuncture which now forms the mainstay of my treatments due to the impressive results I am seeing with it on most people..

At the start of treatment I'll do a thorough consultation, and check your pulses and tongue.  Often I'll palpate areas of pain or discomfort, and abdominal points.  It is a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space to talk, and you can feel reassured that you will be heard and treated with respect.

Treatment may include associated techniques such as Cupping, Moxibustion, Gua Sha, Laser Acupuncture, YNSA Scalp Acupuncture Auricular Acupuncture or Electro Acupuncture.  We'll discuss your treatment priorities and make a treatment plan together.

Acupuncture

Natural Healing

Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles under the skin in specific locations to stimulate the body's own healing mechanisms.  In Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, we use the needles to access points on the meridian system to encourage the smooth flow of blood and Qi (often translated as Energy).  When this flow is obstructed or in disharmony, pain and disease occur- so restoring healthy circulation of Qi and blood will help restore equilibrium throughout the body.  There are many different styles of acupuncture- including NeoClassical Style and Scalp Acupuncture

Golden ripples of healing frequencies

Ancient wisdom with Modern Technology

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as Cold Laser, Soft Laser or Photo Bio-Modulation Therapy is painless and effective - great for those with needle phobias or for Children, and for various conditions where needling may not be safe or appropriate. It is becoming more and more popular as research is proving the incredible benefits of using focused light to reduce inflammation, reduce healing time, reduce pain, and for so many issues.  "Cold Lasers" produce no heat, but affect the mitochondria in the cells and their metabolism.  By combining this science with traditional meridian theory, the effects of both can be enhanced.

Safe, gentle and effective

Acupuncture is very safe even for babies and children.  Lilja has studied Shonishin Paediatric acupuncture which is a very gentle Japanese technique- usually no needles are used.  Low Level Laser treatment can also be amazing for treating babies and children.  Results can be really quick with small children as their Qi is very dynamic and their conditions are usually more straightforward.  Of course, treatment for a baby with colic or eczema will be very different from treatment for a 14 year old with a sport injury!  A parent or guardian must be present until the child is 16 years old.

cupping on a back

Cupping Therapy

Release and detox

Cupping (the placement of suction cups onto the skin) is sometimes included within your treatment, and can sometimes be added as a stand-alone treatment where appropriate.  It can be great for stimulating Qi and Blood flow, relieving tight muscles and supporting healing.  Cupping can leave marks on the skin for several days after treatment but it is not a bruise. Research has shown cupping to be effective for Fibromyalgia, and neck and shoulder pain, amongst other conditions.

Warming, moving and tonifying

Moxibustion (or Moxa) is commonly used alongside acupuncture to support treatment.  It usually involves burning a herb on top of the needles or holding a stick of burning moxa over the skin in certain areas to create warmth and movement, and to support the immune system.  It is very relaxing and enjoyable.  It is also often recommended in late stages of pregnancy for turning Breech Babies.
